🌬️ Hairdryer: New Tips and Recommendations
Prep with Heat Protectant: NEVER skip this step. Always apply a high-quality heat protectant spray or cream evenly to damp, towel-dried hair from roots to ends. This is crucial to create a barrier against heat and reduce drying time.
Rough Dry First: Before sectioning, use the dryer on a medium heat and high airflow setting to remove about 60-80% of the moisture from your hair. Use your fingers to lift the roots for initial volume. Stop when the hair is mostly dry but still slightly cool to the touch.
Section Properly & Use the Nozzle: Divide your partially dried hair into small, manageable sections (about 1-2 inches wide). Attach the concentrator nozzle (the flat attachment) to your dryer. This directs the airflow precisely and is vital for a smooth, shiny finish.
Choose the Right Temperature: Match the heat to your hair type and the stage of drying:
-
Fine/Damaged Hair: Use the medium-low heat and high airflow setting.
-
Normal/Medium Hair: Use a medium-high heat and high airflow setting.
-
Thick/Coarse Hair: Use the highest heat and high airflow setting for shaping, but finish with a lower heat.
Use a Brush and Focus Down: Place a round or paddle brush at the root of a section. Pull the brush taut, and follow it with the hairdryer, ensuring the nozzle is angled down the hair shaft. This smooths the cuticle, maximizing shine. Keep the dryer moving to avoid overheating one spot.
Set the Style with Cool Air: Once each section is completely dry and smooth, use the 'Cool Shot' button (often marked with a snowflake) on your dryer. Blast the cool air over the section for a few seconds while holding it taut with the brush. This rapidly cools the hair, locking the shape and shine in place.
Finish with a Serum: After all sections are dry and cool, apply a small amount of lightweight finishing oil or shine serum to the mid-lengths and ends. This adds polish, controls flyaways, and helps fight humidity throughout the day.
